Sebha policeman killed in attack on police patrol

Libya, 16 March 2019–  A policeman was shot in Sebha on Friday while a police patrol was stopping and checking vehicles on a downtown roundabout, according to the city’s security directorate. He was rushed to hospital but later died of his injuries.

The incident occurred at the 5 October roundabout.  The occupants of one of the vehicles started shooting at police and in the exchange of fire and policeman Abdulnabi Mohamed al-Mahdi was hit in the chest.

One of the attackers was also wounded in the shootout and was taken to Sebha Medical Centre for treatment where he was kept under armed guard. Initially two other members of the gang fled the scene but have since been arrested.

Speaking about the incident, the director of security in Sebha, Brigadier Saadi Emhemed Ali said  that it would not affect their determination to defeat crime, rid the city of gangs and restore law and order.
