SURMAN, Libya — Gunmen abduct Libyan activist Abdel-Moneim al-Merimi in front of his children

Abduction on main road leaves children alone
Eyewitnesses said masked gunmen intercepted al-Merimi’s car on a busy street, forced him out in front of his family and took him to an unknown location, leaving his children inside the vehicle.

Passersby find children, alert police
A local source reported that residents discovered the frightened children and handed them over to Surman Police Station, where they were placed in the care of the city’s Security Directorate.

Family demands answers and justice
Al-Merimi’s brothers collected the children from the station and told reporters their sibling is an activist in the peaceful movement opposing Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah’s government. They urged the Attorney General to intervene, reveal al-Merimi’s whereabouts and bring the perpetrators to justice.
