The dinar’s future as a test for Central Bank management
LIBYA – Political analyst Ibrahim Asweiti has said that rescuing the Libyan dinar is the real test for the current management of the Central Bank of Libya, noting that the assignment of Dr Fawzi Musbah Abukhzam had met no public institutional objections, which he believes gives the management room to manoeuvre.
Policy overhaul and fighting corruption
Asweiti told Erem News that meeting the challenge requires updating monetary policy, adopting laws and measures to combat what he described as rampant corruption, and applying sound governance to oil revenues.
Political consensus despite government division
He added that the agreement of the various parties to Abukhzam’s appointment, despite the continuing government division, was in his assessment an important factor helping the management tackle the challenges facing the dinar.
