Libyan military chiefs chart overhaul of ground forces in Marj meeting
MARJ, Libya — Libyan Chief of General Staff Gen. Abdelrazek al-Nadhouri met Monday with Lt. Gen. Saddam Khalifa Haftar, head of the Libyan Army’s Ground Forces Command, to map out a sweeping upgrade of the country’s land forces and sharpen coordination across the armed services, the General Command’s media office said.
Modernising the Ground Forces Command
The two officers reviewed “priority files” aimed at bringing the Ground Forces Command in line with the technological demands of modern warfare, according to the statement. Plans under discussion include procurement of advanced equipment, expanded training programs and a revised command-and-control architecture designed to boost combat readiness.
Inter-service coordination and institutional performance
Al-Nadhouri and Haftar also examined mechanisms to tighten coordination between the army’s branches and to raise overall institutional efficiency. Proposals on the table range from joint exercises and intelligence-sharing protocols to new performance benchmarks for units deployed across the country.
The meeting, held at al-Nadhouri’s residence in the eastern city of Marj, comes as Libya’s military leadership seeks to position the force for rapid technological changes reshaping global defence sectors.
