Health workers’ salaries and insurance on MPs’ agenda
LIBYA – Hassan Al-Zarqa, deputy chair of the House of Representatives’ Health and Environment Committee, held a meeting on Monday with MPs Saleh Hashem and Ibrahim Al-Zughaid and representatives of the ongoing protest movement and sit-in participants to discuss the demands of health sector workers, chief among them a salary adjustment.
Salaries and health insurance discussed
The meeting, held at House of Representatives headquarters, covered a number of health sector issues, including the adjustment of workers’ salaries and health insurance.
Al-Zarqa condemned the way medical and paramedical staff had been treated, saying such treatment was unworthy of them and that they must be respected and their efforts recognised.
Law No. 17 of 1986 and general health insurance
He explained that the Health and Environment Committee had previously worked on amending Law No. 17 of 1986 on the protection of medical and paramedical staff, as well as on issuing Law No. 1 of 2023 on general health insurance for all Libyans.
Coordination with unions to receive proposals
Al-Zarqa said the committee would coordinate with unions to receive proposals and memoranda that could help raise standards in the health sector and improve conditions for those working in it.
