Saddam Haftar Says Flintlock 2026 Showcases Professionalism of Libyan Armed Forces

Saddam Haftar: Libya’s Hosting of Flintlock 2026 Reflects Military Professionalism and Broad International Participation

Libya is set to host the military exercise Flintlock 2026 in mid-April under the supervision of U.S. Africa Command, AFRICOM, with broad African and international participation, Deputy Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar said.

Preparations Completed in Sirte

Haftar said preparations to host officers and military personnel from across Libya had been completed weeks ago in Sirte, describing the city as one that “resisted terrorism and prevailed,” and which today is bringing Libyans together again after being rebuilt through what he called sincere national efforts.

He said Libya’s hosting of the international military event reflects the ability of the country’s youth to unite, as well as the professionalism and discipline of members of the military establishment.

A Show of Unity and Military Readiness

According to Haftar, the exercise highlights the cohesion of the Libyan military and its readiness to defend a unified Libya. He said members of the armed forces would remain firmly united and strong in protecting the country.

He described the exercise as an important opportunity to strengthen international coordination, combat terrorism, protect borders, raise combat readiness, and enhance coordination among the participating African countries.

Restoring Libya’s Regional Role

Haftar said the event represents a steady step toward restoring Libya’s leading role in promoting security and peace at the national level, across Africa, and in the Mediterranean.

He added that hosting Flintlock 2026 carries significance beyond the military dimension, reflecting Libya’s aspiration to reassert its role in regional and international security efforts.

Praise for Khalifa Haftar and AFRICOM Coordination

Haftar also expressed appreciation to Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Khalifa Belqasim Haftar, saying he had personally followed all preparations for the exercise and took pride in all members of the Libyan military institution who came from Tripoli and other Libyan cities to take part in what he described as the first military event of its kind in the country’s history.

He further thanked the U.S. Embassy in Libya and U.S. Africa Command, AFRICOM, praising what he described as a high level of coordination with the Libyan Arab Armed Forces and their commitment to strengthening partnership and cooperation.

Call for Inclusive National Leadership

Haftar said Libya’s firm commitment to unity, protection of the country, and the consolidation of peace, reconstruction, and comprehensive development across all Libyan cities, towns, and regions requires an inclusive, decisive, and strong national leadership that engages all Libyans in building the country’s future.

Confidence in Participating Forces

He concluded by saluting all members of the military institution participating in the exercise, expressing confidence in their professionalism, courage, and commitment to the laws and regulations in force within the Libyan Arab Armed Forces.
