Al-Jadeed warns of the consequences of floating the dinar
Libya – Economic analyst Mokhtar Al-Jadeed said that floating the currency means, in his view, giving the government a “blank cheque” and an open-balance account from which it can spend as it wishes.
Warning over the seriousness of the proposal
In a post on his personal Facebook page, Al-Jadeed asked: “Do those who talk about floating the dinar realise how dangerous what they are saying is?”
He added that the matter, in his view, is not merely an idea that can be accepted or rejected, but concerns “the fate of an entire people that cannot be played with in this way.”
Al-Jadeed concluded that this position does not express his opinion alone, arguing that “all respected voices and pens” agree in rejecting talk of floating the dinar.
