Al-Ablaq links parliament’s role to living-standards files
LIBYA – House of Representatives member Ammar Al-Ablaq expected the new speakership to strike a professional balance between political files — including the 4+4 agreement, rapprochement with the High Council of State and addressing the split in state institutions — and the living-standards crises facing citizens.
2.2 million employees and rising commodity prices
Al-Ablaq cited new Speaker Salehin Abdulnabi’s attention to the salaries file, amid some 2.2 million citizens working in state institutions and rising prices for most basic goods and services.
Social and military forces and the budget
In comments to Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Ablaq said parliament’s work would not be separate from the influence of social and military forces on the scene. He thought it likely that a unified, clear and binding budget law would be approved, instead of continued expansive spending by the two governments competing for power.
Electricity, liquidity and elections
He expected improvement in some services, such as electricity and the availability of liquidity, to ease citizens’ hardship, but saw holding elections as still a distant hope.
