Hammad Welcomes Security Council Resolution, Calls for Unified Executive Authority and Consensus-Based Elections

Hammad stresses ending division and unifying institutions

LIBYA – Libyan Prime Minister Osama Hammad has welcomed the outcome of the UN Security Council session on Libya held on 30 October 2026, saying it supports the political process and underlines the importance of forming a unified executive authority, ending institutional division and unifying the sovereign institutions.

Elections and restoring the unity of the state

In a post on his official X account, Hammad said that moving towards free and fair elections requires national consensus and a sound constitutional and legal basis, and that forming a unified executive authority is a key gateway to restoring the unity of state institutions, ending division, safeguarding the Libyan people’s resources and creating the conditions for stability and development.

Respect for sovereignty and Libyan ownership of the solution

Hammad praised the international efforts supporting these directions, stressing that their success requires respect for Libyan sovereignty and support for the national will, and that the political solution must be consensual, Libyan-owned and Libyan-led, free from dictates and interference that do not serve the country’s stability.
