Al-Buishi: Hajj Registration Available to Libyans Abroad Through Relatives; Exceptions Opened for Sole Breadwinners and Sole Mahrams
LIBYA – Sabri Al-Buishi, deputy head of the General Authority for Hajj and Umrah Affairs, said citizens living outside the country can register for Hajj through a family member inside Libya by activating a SIM card in the applicant’s name and using it inside the country.
Age Requirement and First-Time Exceptions
Al-Buishi, speaking to Libya Al-Hadath TV, said applicants for registration must be at least 35 years old, announcing that the authority was for the first time opening special exceptions for two categories: the sole breadwinner and the family’s sole mahram.
50% of Places for Specific Age Groups
He explained that the authority had allocated 50% of pilgrim places to those aged 60 and those aged 65 and above.
He noted that last year had seen, in his words, a form of injustice towards the elderly, as the share of pilgrims aged between 25 and 50 exceeded 70%, prompting the authority to review registration rules.
Two Weeks for Registration, With Possible Extension
Al-Buishi noted that the registration period on the system would be two weeks and would remain available 24 hours a day, with the possibility of extending registration by three or four days.
