Al-Takbali: Al-Menfi May Rely on Armed Formations in the West to Obstruct the 4+4 Deal

Al-Takbali: Interests Rule the Scene and Al-Menfi May Bet on Opponents of the 4+4 Deal

LIBYA House of Representatives member Ali Al-Takbali said he believed interests govern the relationship prevailing in the current scene more than a genuine political alliance.

UN Drive Backed by the United States

Speaking in exclusive remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Takbali said the Geneva conference had formed the current executive authority, but that there is now a UN drive backed by the United States to form a new authority bringing together the leading forces in the east and west of the country. In light of that path, he argued, Dbeibah should draw closer to the leadership of the National Army rather than Mohamed Al-Menfi.

Al-Menfi’s Bet on Opponents of the Deal

Al-Takbali warned that Mohamed Al-Menfi may rely on opponents of the ‘4+4 deal — particularly armed formations in the west that are relatively able to obstruct its implementation — noting that this bet could collapse if Washington seriously backs the deal and presses those formations to abide by it.
