Sunday Weather: Unsettled Conditions in the West, Rain Along the Coast, Maritime Warning for Strong Winds
LIBYA – The National Meteorological Centre forecast unsettled weather across western areas from today, Sunday, with active winds, a gradual drop in temperatures, building thunderclouds and rain of varying intensity.
Rain Over the North-West and Nafusa Mountain
The centre said rain-bearing thunderclouds will build at times over the far north-west, areas bordering Tunisia and the Nafusa Mountain, before spreading late this evening and on Monday to the rest of the areas stretching from Ras Ajdir to Misrata and the Sirte coast.
It said rainfall will range from moderate to significant, especially along the coast, and may cause water to collect in low-lying places, urging the public to take precautions.
Cloud Extends to Benghazi and the Green Mountain
The centre added that cloud will build this evening over parts of the Green Mountain, with scattered showers, before covering areas from Benghazi to the Green Mountain heights and its south tomorrow, with scattered thunderstorms. Significant rain is expected especially over the Green Mountain from Tuesday evening.
Relative Stability in the South and Centre
In the south and centre, little change is expected, with temperatures remaining around seasonal averages and easing mid-week.
Maritime Warning for Strong Winds
In its marine bulletin for some Libyan ports today, Sunday 13 September 2026, the centre warned of north-easterly to south-easterly winds turning gradually to active to strong north-westerlies along the coast from Zuwarah to Misrata, with speeds today of 25 to 35 knots.
The bulletin is valid from 09:00 GMT this morning until 12:00 GMT tomorrow. The centre noted a low of 1015 hPa affecting Al-Khums and a high of 1019 hPa affecting the Zuwarah coast.
