Al-Marash: Rotating Parliament’s Presidency Is a Right Governed by Its Internal Rules

Al-Marash links change of presidency to MPs’ demands

LIBYA – Political analyst Kamel Al-Marash has said the presidency of the House of Representatives can rotate among its members under the House’s internal rules, arguing that Libya’s exceptional circumstances kept Counsellor Aguila Saleh in the post for more than 12 years, which in his view caused widespread discontent among MPs who had repeatedly called for change.

Assessment of opponents of the new presidency

In a statement to Sputnik, Al-Marash added that opponents of the decision are, as he put it, a minority seeking to create a new split by moving to Tripoli, but he ruled out their success because a majority of MPs had voted for the new presidency.

Al-Marash also said the armed forces led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar had endorsed the new presidency.
