Sustainable increases require real revenues and transparency
LIBYA – Ali Al-Sharif, a professor of economics at the University of Benghazi, has said that addressing salary imbalances in Libya requires controlling and rationalising public spending and improving the governance of oil revenues, while ensuring they are collected and managed transparently.
Funding pay rises without hurting the dinar
In comments to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper, Al-Sharif said that tackling wage disparities sustainably requires any increases to be funded from real revenues, rather than relying on uncovered spending whose cost citizens may end up paying through a weaker dinar and higher prices.
