Fahima: No Date for Approving Unified Salary Scale Before Financial Studies Are Completed

Technical and legal conditions before the pay scale is approved

LIBYA – House of Representatives member Saleh Fahima has said no date has been set for approving Libya’s unified salary scale, stressing that the project must undergo careful technical and financial study before it is adopted to ensure it can be implemented and sustainably funded.

Fairness does not mean equal pay for all employees

Fahima told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper that fairness in wages must take account of qualifications, experience, the nature of the work and the level of responsibility, while addressing unjustified disparities and not infringing rights acquired under the law, rather than imposing absolute equality among all employees.

Legislative obstacles and the responsibility of parliament and government

He said the multiplicity of legislation and exceptions and the inconsistent application of existing laws were among the main challenges to be addressed, explaining that responsibility for the project is shared between the House of Representatives, through legislation and oversight, and the government, through providing financial cover and implementing the law.
