Arabian Gulf Oil Completes Replacement of 100 Kilometres of Sarir–Hariga Pipeline After 30 Months

New oil pipeline enters service without disrupting pumping

LIBYA – Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO) has announced the launch of the final stages of a project to replace about 100 kilometres of the main 34-inch shipping pipeline between the Sarir field and the Hariga oil port in Tobruk, under project No. Q-87, after 30 months of work.

Engineering and technical work

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) said the project is part of a plan to sustain and increase production rates, and included welding, excavation, hydrostatic testing and backfilling of the new line.

Hot tapping without interruption

Technical teams began hot tapping in August without disrupting oil pumping or reducing production rates, in line with the technical standards API RP 2201, NFPA 51B and ASME PCC-2 and with safety and quality requirements.

Line enters service on 11 October

On Sunday 11 October, it was announced that the connection had been completed and that crude had begun flowing through the new pipeline, which entered service successfully.

Praise for the implementing teams

NOC Board Chairman Masoud Suleiman congratulated the management of Arabian Gulf Oil Company and its engineers, technicians and workers, praising the implementing company’s commitment to technical specifications and set deadlines.
