Bin Sharada criticises invitation to institution heads at a sensitive moment
LIBYA – High Council of State member Saad Bin Sharada said an invitation from Presidential Council President Mohamed Al-Menfi for the heads of the three political institutions to meet after the change in the House of Representatives leadership may, in his assessment, be an attempt to confuse the political scene and does not in itself guarantee a tangible shift in the Libyan crisis.
House leadership change and the meeting invitation
In comments to Sputnik, Bin Sharada said the invitation came immediately after the election of a new House of Representatives presidency bureau, arguing that its timing alone is not enough to bring about a real change in the path of a settlement.
Failure of political bodies on the 2025 roadmap
He said the current stage required moving beyond the existing political bodies, which he believes have failed to deal realistically with the roadmap put forward by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya in 2025, and which the House of Representatives and the High Council of State had been relied on to implement in order to pull the country out of deadlock.
The 4+4 committee and the executive-authority step
He argued that the stalling of those institutions had prolonged the crisis, before the 4+4 mini dialogue committee helped move the political process forward and completed two of its stages, while the third step — unifying the executive authority — remains pending, according to him.
Hanna Tetteh’s briefing and what comes next
He pointed to the mid-October briefing by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative Hanna Tetteh as likely to clarify the direction of coming political moves, while ruling out that Al-Menfi’s invitation would draw wide domestic or international attention and again describing it as an attempt to muddy the waters, according to his analysis.
