Kazinform: Libya Discusses Increasing Grain and Meat Imports From Kazakhstan and Expanding Agricultural Cooperation

Talks to boost agricultural trade and supply chains

LIBYA – An economic report published by the English-language service of Kazakhstan’s official Kazinform news agency has examined Libya’s efforts to increase its imports of Kazakh grain and meat, as part of the two countries’ drive to strengthen trade cooperation in agriculture.

Agriculture ministers meet on expanding exports

The report — followed and summarised by Al-Marsad — said Kazakh Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov discussed prospects for developing agricultural trade relations with Abdullatif Al-Taher, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock in the Dbeibah government.

It quoted Saparov as stressing the importance of strengthening trade and economic ties with Libya and increasing the presence of Kazakh agricultural products in North African markets, and as expressing his country’s readiness to increase exports of grain, beef and lamb to the Libyan market.

Concrete projects and reliable supply chains

The report added that Saparov called for turning the existing potential into actual trade projects, expanding contacts between business sectors and establishing reliable supply chains, as he outlined Kazakhstan’s agricultural production capacity.

Al-Taher expressed interest in expanding areas of cooperation, exchanging expertise and creating additional opportunities for trade, and the two sides agreed that direct contact between the relevant bodies would help identify the most promising areas of partnership, while also discussing prospects for exporting Kazakh meat products.

Veterinary and health requirements and import conditions

According to the report, the two sides discussed veterinary and phytosanitary requirements, food safety measures and market access procedures, regarding the alignment of standards and import conditions as a key step towards increasing agricultural exports between the two countries.
