Infrastructure, Border Security and Migration: Fezzan Forum Puts the South’s Challenges Before the Mission
LIBYA – Stephanie Khoury, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, met members of the Fezzan Forum on Tuesday as part of the mission’s engagement with various Libyan parties.
Fezzan’s Challenges and Political Representation
Discussions focused on the challenges facing the Fezzan region, including representation, infrastructure development, border security, migration and youth participation, as well as involving the region’s voices in the political process.
The forum’s delegation stressed Fezzan’s historic role in advancing cohesion among Libyans.
Roadmap and Elections
Khoury reviewed progress on the political roadmap facilitated by the United Nations, including the agreement on the “mini-meeting,” stressing the importance of advancing the political process towards national elections, unifying state institutions and addressing critical priorities for stability.
Engaging All Segments of the Region
Khoury affirmed the mission’s commitment to engaging all segments of the Fezzan region and ensuring that Libya’s diverse perspectives are reflected in efforts to reach a sustainable political settlement.
