Politis: Libya and Turkey Seek to Raise Bilateral Trade to Five Billion Dollars

Libyan-Turkish trade target of five billion dollars

LIBYA – An economic report published by the English-language Cypriot newspaper Politis said Libya and Turkey are seeking to raise the volume of bilateral trade to five billion dollars.

Business forum and joint economic committee

The report, which Al-Marsad followed and summarised, said the minister of economy and trade in the Dbeibah government, Suhail Abu Shiha, and Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat discussed in Istanbul the possibility of holding a “Turkish-Libyan Business and Investment Forum” alongside the first session of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee.

Diplomatic activity and the maritime zones MoU

The report linked the economic push to growing Turkish diplomatic activity towards Libya after recent developments, in particular the House of Representatives’ ratification of the Libyan-Turkish memorandum of understanding signed in 2019 on maritime zones in the eastern Mediterranean.
