Forged family records for 76,000 dinars
Libya – The Public Prosecution has ordered the detention of a foreign national and an employee at the Al-Hadba Civil Registry office pending investigation in a civil-status data forgery case that enabled the issue of 18 Libyan national numbers to foreigners, the Prosecution said.
An arrangement that began in 2014
The Prosecution said the foreign national met the employee in 2014 and agreed with him to forge civil-status data so that he and his two brothers could obtain family papers allowing them to secure national numbers and benefit from rights reserved for Libyans, in return for 76,000 Libyan dinars paid to the employee.
Three family records and benefits for recipients
According to the Prosecution, the forgery resulted in the foreign national and his two brothers obtaining three family records, which enabled the issue of 18 national numbers that allowed them and their family members to obtain foreign currency allocated to Libyan heads of household, benefit from prescribed financial grants and obtain Libyan passports.
Arrest of other beneficiaries and tracing the gains
Alongside the remand detention of the foreign national and the employee who conspired with him, the Prosecution ordered the arrest of the remaining beneficiaries of the forgery, the suspension of administrative extracts based on it, and the tracing of benefits obtained from it.
