Prosecutors Detain Foreigner Over Four Forged National ID Numbers and 40,000 Dinars From Marriage Support Fund

Investigation into civil status documents and undue benefits

LIBYA – The Public Prosecution has ordered a foreigner to be held in pre-trial detention following investigations into the forgery of civil status data within the jurisdiction of the Tripoli Court of Appeal, which uncovered evidence that he colluded with a public employee at the Civil Registry office in Murzuq to forge a family record in return for 9,000 dinars received by the employee.

Marriage Support Fund money and national ID numbers

The Attorney General’s Office said that, according to the investigation’s findings, the forgery enabled the defendant to receive 40,000 dinars from the Marriage Support Fund and to have four national ID numbers issued, which were then used to obtain the foreign currency allocated to Libyan heads of household.

Detention and pursuit of the employee and the proceeds

The prosecution ordered the foreigner to be held in pre-trial detention, the employee suspected of involvement to be arrested and brought in, the administrative documents linked to the case to be suspended, and the financial benefits obtained through the forgery to be traced.
