LIBYA – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) on Thursday facilitated a meeting of the Joint Technical Coordination Team for Border Security, hosted by the Government of National Unity’s Interior Ministry, with the participation of 45 military and security officers from various parts of Libya, as well as a number of staff from the two joint communication and information-exchange centres in Tripoli and Benghazi.

The mission’s media office said the meeting marked a further important step towards strengthening cooperation between eastern and western Libya on border security, with participants reviewing progress towards activating the two joint centres and agreeing to carry out joint field missions to secure the borders.

Training course from 4 to 7 October

The meeting followed a specialised training course held in Tripoli from 4 to 7 October for staff of the two joint centres, covering communications security and report writing.

The course was organised in line with commitments made by the two army chiefs of staff to activate the joint centres and strengthen their capacity to carry out their duties.
