Putin criticises Western intervention and stresses that the decision belongs to Libyans
LIBYA – Russian President Vladimir Putin has blamed Western countries for helping to destroy Libya’s state institutions, saying Moscow is ready to help Libyans restore them while stressing that the final decision on a settlement must rest with the Libyan people.
West accused of helping destroy state institutions
Speaking at the plenary session of the Russia-Africa summit in Moscow, as reported by RT, Putin said Western countries had played a major negative role in the destruction of the Libyan state, according to his assessment.
He said he did not want to comment on the complexities of Libya’s internal political processes, but argued that Western intervention had contributed to the destruction of state institutions, which he said he regards as obvious.
Restoring institutions and continuing economic cooperation
The Russian president stressed that Libyans alone should take the final decision on a settlement and on restoring state institutions, adding that Russia would do everything in its power to support this.
He added that his country would continue its contacts with the Libyan side on all key issues, including the economy.
