National Development Agency: Reopening of Sebha International Airport Marks a New Phase of Development in Southern Libya
Libya – The National Development Agency announced the opening of Sebha International Airport on Saturday, May 16, 2026, coinciding with the 12th anniversary of Operation Dignity, following the completion of construction and equipping works carried out under the agency’s supervision.
Official and Community Attendance
The agency said the opening ceremony was attended by its Director General, Mahmoud Al-Ferjani, alongside representatives of the General Command of the Armed Forces, members of the House of Representatives, several municipal mayors, representatives of local airlines, and elders and dignitaries from a number of social councils.
A Development Milestone for the South
According to the agency, the reopening of the airport reflects the scale of the development transformation underway in southern Libya, under the directives of the General Command of the Armed Forces and through the implementation of the National Development Agency.
It added that the project forms part of a broader national vision aimed at upgrading infrastructure and restoring vital facilities across cities in the south.
A Major Boost for Air Transport
The agency noted that the airport was completed in line with modern standards and equipped with advanced facilities, making it a qualitative addition to the air transport sector in southern Libya.
It said the project represents a strategic step toward strengthening transport links and services, connecting southern cities with other parts of the country, and supporting development while improving services provided to citizens.

The National Development Agency stressed that the project stands as a tangible embodiment of a new phase defined by construction, development, and the restoration of state institutions.
It described the airport’s reopening as a clear message that southern Libya is now firmly at the heart of reconstruction and development projects, within a national path aimed at building a more stable and prosperous future.
