Bouzaakouk: Washington Seeking Economic and Financial Understandings to Pave Way for Comprehensive Political Settlement
Libya – Khaled Bouzaakouk, head of the Benghazi Forum for Economic and Development Studies, said the core of the dispute in Libya revolves around the sharing of financial resources amid the country’s ongoing political division.
He noted that Libya’s economy remains almost entirely dependent on oil revenues, which account for around 90% of budget financing.
Economic Understandings Before Political Settlement
In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, Bouzaakouk said Washington is seeking to build economic and financial understandings as a prerequisite for any comprehensive political settlement.
He said the unification of the budget represents a fundamental step toward stabilising institutions and reducing the factors driving division.
