Haftar in Sirte: We Believe in Deeds, Not Words, and Libya’s Reconstruction Drive Will Continue
Libya – Field Marshal Khalifa Belqاسم Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, announced a new package of development, public-service and strategic projects during a visit to Sirte, pledging that the country’s reconstruction drive would continue across all regions until Libya emerges as a beacon of security, stability and development.
Haftar was accompanied by Libyan government Prime Minister Osama Hammad, Deputy Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar, and Belqاسم Haftar, Director-General of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund. The visit was also attended by several members of the House of Representatives, tribal elders, dignitaries and local residents.
Sirte’s Transformation After Years of Hardship
Addressing residents of Sirte, Haftar said it was a source of pride to see the city transformed by major urban and environmental improvements following years of hardship.
He said the scale of the city’s progress could best be appreciated by comparing its present condition with what it had endured only a few years earlier.
“This remarkable development was not a gift from the heavens,” Haftar said, describing it as the result of sacrifice, hard work and perseverance under difficult circumstances.
He added that determination had proved stronger than the obstacles and challenges encountered along the road to reconstruction.
“We Believe in Deeds, Not Words”
Haftar said the work had been carried out quietly because the leadership believed in deeds rather than words, and in achievements rather than speeches and slogans.
“Anyone who doubts that should look at Sirte today. The picture speaks more beautifully than words,” he said.
He described the progress achieved so far as only “a little of what is still to come,” stressing that one accomplishment would be followed by another and that development would not be confined to Sirte.
The reconstruction campaign, he said, would extend throughout Libya until the country became a global model of security, stability, construction and renewal.
He added that Libyans had come to understand that when the leadership made a promise, it fulfilled it.
New Projects Across Libya
Haftar announced the launch of a new package of development, service and strategic projects in Sirte and other Libyan cities, aimed at supporting the national economy, improving public services and expanding opportunities for sustainable development.
He stressed that the projects would make no distinction between eastern and western Libya, or between the country’s north and south.
“Libya is one indivisible homeland, protected by one army, and its people live on its soil as one family,” he said.
A Message to Libya’s Youth
Describing Sirte as Libya’s central point of balance, Haftar addressed the country’s youth directly, saying the nation needed their minds, strength and determination.
He urged young Libyans to enter the fields of work and production with confidence in their abilities, assume responsibility regardless of its weight and participate actively in building what he called the new Libya — a country of security, stability, development and prosperity.
“What you plant today, you will harvest tomorrow,” he said, calling on them to sow only good in their homeland so that its future harvest would also be good.
Praise for Saddam Haftar and Development Personnel
Haftar praised Deputy Commander-in-Chief Saddam Haftar for his efforts in delivering what he described as significant achievements in Sirte.
He also commended the Director-General of the National Development Agency, its employees and everyone involved in planning and executing the projects transforming the city.
Haftar congratulated Sirte’s residents on the progress achieved and called for the development drive to continue, concluding with a prayer for Libya’s protection.
Saddam Haftar: Sirte Was Honoured by the Visit
In a post on his personal account on the social media platform “X,” Saddam Haftar said Sirte had been honoured by the visit of the Commander-in-Chief, who was accompanied by senior military commanders and government officials.
He said the visit was intended to announce a package of new strategic projects and inspect both completed and ongoing developments across the city.
Medical City, Oncology Hospital and Major Infrastructure
Saddam Haftar said the newly announced projects included the establishment of Khalifa Medical City, Sirte Central Oncology Hospital and a new building for the Sirte branch of the Central Bank of Libya.
The package also includes what he described as Libya’s largest wastewater treatment plant and the Sirte International Equestrian Track.
Continuing Development and Protecting Libya’s Unity
Saddam Haftar said the projects formed part of the Armed Forces General Command’s commitment to elevating Sirte so that it could keep pace with Libya’s major development transformations.
He reaffirmed that the development campaign would continue across the country’s cities and regions, while stressing the leadership’s commitment to protecting Libya’s unity and safeguarding its sovereignty.
