Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar Meets Putin at the Kremlin to Discuss Libyan-Russian Cooperation and Institutional Unification
Libya – Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow during his official visit to Russia. The meeting addressed bilateral relations and ways to expand cooperation between the two countries across various fields.
Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar conveyed the greetings of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar to President Putin and the Russian people, affirming the depth of Libyan-Russian relations and the General Command’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in support of shared interests.
Putin Praises the Armed Forces and Backs the Unification of Libya’s Institutions
According to the General Command, Putin expressed his appreciation for Field Marshal Haftar and for the role of the Armed Forces in maintaining security and stability in Libya. He also praised the Deputy Commander-in-Chief’s efforts to develop the Armed Forces and enhance their capabilities.
The Russian president reaffirmed his support for efforts to unify Libya’s institutions, strengthen stability and preserve the country’s territorial integrity.
Saddam Haftar Describes Productive Meeting and Prospects for a Strategic Partnership
In a post on his official account on X, Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar described his meeting with Putin as “productive” and expressed appreciation for the Russian president’s praise of the Armed Forces’ role in maintaining security and stability.
He welcomed Putin’s support for efforts to unify Libya’s institutions and strengthen stability, adding that both sides had emphasised the importance of continuing to develop Libyan-Russian cooperation across various fields.
Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar said stronger cooperation could pave the way for a strategic partnership between the two countries that would serve their shared interests and support efforts to maintain regional security and stability.
