Libyan MP: Broad Support for US Initiative Boosts Prospects of Ending Political Divide
Libya – Member of the House of Representatives Essam al-Jehani said the backing expressed by most Libyan parties for the US peace initiative gives it a strong chance of producing a political settlement capable of ending the country’s prolonged divisions and paving the way for presidential and parliamentary elections.
A Path to Elections
Speaking to Al-Masar TV, al-Jehani described the initiative as a bridge toward a new political phase that could culminate in nationwide presidential and parliamentary elections.
He added that the General Command’s endorsement of the initiative further strengthens its prospects of success and increases the likelihood of translating it into concrete measures on the ground.
