Egyptian–US coordination on a Libyan settlement
Libya – A news report published by Egypt’s English-language Ahram Online said coordination continues between Cairo and Washington on several regional files, including advancing the political process and ending the state of division in Libya.
Phone talks on regional files
The report, which Al-Marsad followed and whose Libya-related content it translated, said Egyptian foreign minister Badr Abdelatty held phone talks with Massad Boulos, senior adviser to US president Donald Trump for Arab and African affairs, centred on Iran, Sudan and Libya.
State and institutional unity an Egyptian priority
According to the report, the two sides discussed the situation in Libya and ways to advance the political process and end the division, while Abdelatty affirmed that Egypt’s efforts on the Libyan file rest on the priority of preserving Libya’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity and supporting the unity of its national institutions.
The report quoted Abdelatty as stressing the need for regional and international efforts to converge in support of the political process, helping the Libyan parties reach a sustainable settlement that reflects their will and preserves the unity of the state and its institutions.
