Al-Naem: Pricing Goods Falls to the Economy Ministry, Municipal Guard Monitors Implementation

Municipal Guard links effective oversight to pricing decisions

LIBYA – The spokesman for the Municipal Guard, Lt Col Mohamed Al-Naem, has said that setting the prices of basic goods and issuing the decisions that regulate them fall within the remit of the Ministry of Economy and the bodies legally authorised to do so, while the Municipal Guard’s role is limited to monitoring compliance with these decisions and taking legal action when violations are detected.

Setting prices is the responsibility of the competent authorities

In comments to the Fawasel platform, Al-Naem explained that the Ministry of Economy and the competent authorities are responsible for measures to regulate the market and tackle rising prices, and that the Municipal Guard does not set prices itself.

Clear decisions needed to make oversight possible

He noted that the Municipal Guard’s remit is to monitor traders’ compliance with official prices and decisions and to apply legal procedures in line with the legislation in force, stressing that effective oversight requires clear and specific pricing instructions and enforcement mechanisms that can be applied in practice.
