Al-Sharif rejects current form of salary scale
LIBYA – House of Representatives member Ismail Al-Sharif has said the House will not pass the draft unified salary scale law in its current form, arguing that it was not based on the necessary studies and assessments and did not take into account the economic and living conditions of Libyan families.
Objections over fairness and laws in force
Speaking to a correspondent of the Libyan News Agency (LANA), Al-Sharif said the proposal does not deliver justice and fairness between job categories and sectors, and does not meet the hopes of teachers and workers in other sectors for better professional and living conditions.
He added that the draft contains provisions which, in his view, conflict with laws in force, chiefly Social Security Law No. 13 of 1980 and Labour Relations Law No. 12 of 2010, and that these must therefore be reviewed to make sure the proposed law is consistent with the wider body of legislation.
He stressed that any reform of pay must rest on legal and objective standards that protect the rights of all groups, reiterating that the draft in its present wording will not get through the House.
