Kleesh links return to schools to fulfilment of teachers’ rights
LIBYA – The official spokesman for the Libya Teachers’ Movement, Wasim Kleesh, has stressed that the sit-ins will continue until teachers’ demands are met and their legitimate rights fulfilled, insisting that they are rights-holders, not advocates of disrupting education.
In exclusive remarks to Libya Al-Hadath TV, Kleesh said teachers bear no responsibility for the failure of the competent authorities to reform the sector, and that demanding they perform their duties to a high standard while their rights have been neglected for years is unacceptable.
Teachers’ dignity and readiness to compensate students
He condemned anyone obstructing teachers from obtaining their rights, stressing that teachers’ dignity will not be compromised and that the movement stands at an equal distance from all parties and institutions and demands nothing but its legitimate rights.
He said the movement supports all measures that help the school year get under way and is ready to take part in any plans to make up for what pupils and students have missed.
He reiterated that teachers’ return to work is tied to their demands being met, rejecting descriptions of the movement’s stance as blackmail or bargaining.
