Warning of growing anger among health workers
LIBYA – Dr Sulaiman Al-Somadi, general coordinator of the Health Sector Movement Union in Libya, has warned of the consequences of continued tension in the sector, saying conditions have reached what he described as “the highest level of tension in years” and that doctors contact the union every day demanding that health facilities be shut down completely.
Efforts to contain the escalation
In a statement to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Al-Somadi said the union was trying to persuade workers to hold back and contain their anger, but warned that this would be difficult to sustain indefinitely. “Pressure leads to an explosion,” he said, in reference to growing discontent among medical staff over working conditions and disputes over measures taken against some workers.
