Bualraiqa: Fragile Institutions Leave Libya’s Political and Financial Decision-Making Open to Penetration

Institutional fragility tops Bualraiqa’s warnings

LIBYA – Faisal Bualraiqa, a researcher in national security affairs, said that Libya remaining stable in security terms but politically weak and institutionally fragile is, in his view, a convenient situation for many of the international and regional powers that interfere in its affairs.

Stability protects interests, fragility eases penetration

In a post on his personal Facebook page, Bualraiqa said stability protects these powers’ interests, while fragility allows them to penetrate state institutions and influence their political and financial decisions.

Libya as a point of balance between interests

He added that the more dangerous development, in his assessment, is Libya gradually turning into a point where these powers’ interests are balanced, with each party finding room for its influence and share while the state’s ability to own its decisions erodes.

Sovereignty held hostage to external balances

He said that when other parties’ interests determine the ceiling of stability in Libya, national sovereignty becomes, in his view, hostage to balances struck outside its borders.
