About 25 kilograms of gold hidden inside a vehicle’s structure
Libya – Members of the Zuwara Anti-Smuggling and Narcotics Department of the Libyan Customs Authority seized €135,800 and eight gold bars weighing a total of about 25 kilograms inside a vehicle with Algerian registration plates at the Ras Ajdir border crossing.
Vehicle searched and hidden items found
The authority said the seizure took place while officers were on duty at the crossing, after the vehicle raised suspicion and a thorough search uncovered the goods hidden inside its structure.
Case referred to the prosecution
It confirmed that legal procedures had been taken and the case referred to the Zawiya Partial Prosecution for Combating Corruption Crimes, with the seized items held pending completion of procedures and investigations.
The operation forms part of the authority’s efforts to tighten control at border crossings, curb the smuggling of cash and precious metals, protect the national economy and support crossing security and transit movement.
