Submarine cable widens Libya’s links to international networks
LIBYA – A report by the British website DatacenterDynamics (DCD) has examined plans by the Ozone Communications and Technology Group (O3 Group) to connect Benghazi to the Medusa submarine cable, a move aimed at developing the country’s digital infrastructure and strengthening its connectivity with the Mediterranean region.
Gergab: advanced infrastructure for a digital economy
The report — followed and summarised by Al-Marsad — quoted the group’s chairman, Faisel Gergab, as saying the company was seeking to provide Libya with advanced digital infrastructure and to create conditions that enable institutions and young people to participate fully in a modern, inclusive digital economy.
Gergab added that such an economy should drive prosperity within Libya and extend its impact to neighbouring countries.
Medusa: stronger links between North Africa, Europe and the Middle East
Norman Albi, chief executive of the Medusa Submarine Cable System, described the cable’s landing in Benghazi as another significant step in the development of the system’s Mediterranean network, saying it would strengthen connectivity between North Africa, Europe and the Middle East and reflected the continued expansion of high-capacity international connectivity in the region.
