Libyan-Syrian cooperation tops General Command meeting
LIBYA – Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Lt Gen Saddam Haftar received Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani and his accompanying delegation, which included the head of the General Intelligence Directorate, Maj Gen Abdulqader Tahhan, at his office at the General Command headquarters in Benghazi.
Syrian consulate, security files and missing nationals
The two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Libya and Syria across various fields and issues of common interest, in a way that serves both countries’ interests, in particular the opening of the Consulate General of the Syrian Arab Republic in Benghazi. The meeting also covered joint security files and follow-up on the cases of Syrian citizens missing in Libya, and stressed the deep fraternal and historical ties between the Libyan and Syrian peoples.
Praise for Syrian leadership and readiness to support
Lt Gen Saddam Haftar praised the Syrian leadership’s role in achieving security and stability, overcoming the challenges the country faced during its transition, restoring normal life and opening up to the international community. He affirmed that the General Command stands with the Syrian leadership and is ready to offer all it can to support the Syrian people, helping Syria regain its standing in the Arab world and internationally.
Al-Shaibani reviews developments in Syria
Al-Shaibani said the Syrian leadership was keen to support every effort to achieve lasting stability in Libya at all levels, and briefed the meeting on the latest developments in Syria.
