Omar al-Mukhtar’s legacy and the martyrs’ pledge
LIBYA – The deputy commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Lt Gen Saddam Haftar, commemorated the sacrifices of Libya’s martyrs on Martyrs’ Day, foremost among them Omar al-Mukhtar, whom he described as the “Sheikh of Martyrs”, affirming that through his steadfastness he embodied the highest meanings of sacrifice and devotion for the homeland and left an enduring legacy of heroism and resilience.
Renewing the pledge to safeguard the homeland
In a post on his personal Facebook page, Lt Gen Saddam Haftar said he renews the pledge that the martyrs’ sacrifices remain a trust upon the nation’s shoulders, and that their stands continue to inspire the ongoing march to build the homeland, preserve its unity and safeguard its security and stability.
The deputy commander-in-chief concluded his post with a prayer for mercy for Libya’s martyrs and that God grant them spacious paradise.
