Anti-Illegal Migration Agency Detains 236 Irregular Migrants in Wide Security Sweep
LIBYA – On the instructions of Major General Salah Mahmoud Al-Khafifi, head of the Agency for Combating Illegal Migration, and under the direct supervision of the agency’s director of security operations, a wide security campaign was launched to curb irregular migration and detain violators present illegally and in an uncontrolled manner within the area of jurisdiction.
Targeting Labour Gatherings and Workshops
The agency’s media office said the campaign targeted a number of areas and sites, including places where labour gathers, workshops and locations with an uncontrolled presence of arrivals of various nationalities, as part of intensified security measures to enforce order and tackle illegal presence.
236 Migrants of Various Nationalities Detained
The campaign resulted in the detention of 236 irregular migrants of various nationalities. Legal measures were taken against them and they were referred to the Greater Benghazi shelter centre to complete the procedures required under the applicable legislation and regulations.
Campaigns and Field Monitoring to Continue
The agency’s leadership affirmed that field security campaigns will continue, along with intensified monitoring and follow-up, to help curb irregular migration, strengthen security and stability, and deal with violators in line with established legal procedures.
