Red Crescent in Ghat: Floods Displace Families and Leave Infrastructure in Collapse

Ongoing floods for a fourth day in Ghat

LIBYA – Fahd Al-Haddad, director of the Red Crescent’s Ghat branch, said the city is witnessing a complete collapse of infrastructure because of ongoing floods that have been sweeping areas inside Ghat for a fourth consecutive day.

Family displacement and difficult living conditions

In remarks to Libya Al-Ahrar TV, which broadcasts from Turkey and was monitored by Al-Marsad, Al-Haddad said some residents who fled their homes had sought refuge with relatives, others with neighbours, while other families remained in difficult conditions.

Warning over wadi flood channels

He warned citizens against approaching wadi channels, noting that readings from the Ghat Red Crescent branch’s weather monitoring room forecast a new flood wave today, Tuesday, or during Wednesday and Thursday.

Stay clear of the public electricity network and flood-flow areas

Al-Haddad stressed that the Red Crescent’s role centres on issuing warnings and alerts based on monitoring-room data, urging residents to take the utmost caution, stay away from wadis and the public electricity network, and keep children clear of flood-flow areas for their safety.
