Al-Marash: Dbeibah government signed a military deal with Ukraine for 250 drones and training crews
LIBYA Political analyst Kamel Al-Marash said Ukrainian crews are present at a base in Misrata and warned against transferring the fallout of the RussiaUkraine conflict onto Libyan soil.
Al-Marash said the Dbeibah government signed a military contract with the Ukrainian government about six months ago to supply 250 drones, along with crews to train military technicians.
Crews at Misrata Base
In exclusive remarks to Erem News, Al-Marash added that the Dbeibah government had allocated the Ukrainian crews a compound inside Misrata air base next to a British compound, claiming British military intelligence personnel were there to monitor Russian air and naval movements in the Mediterranean and North Africa.
He said the Ukrainian crew had arrived and begun training members of formations the government said it had merged into the Defence Ministry under the name Brigade 111”, previously led by Abdul Salam Al-Zoubi before he was appointed deputy defence minister, according to Al-Marash.
Suspicions Over Drone Operations
Al-Marash pointed to suspicions that Ukrainians may have launched drones toward a vessel in the so-called Russian “shadow fleet” near Libyan shores about two months ago, without offering evidence for that claim.
He added that drones had been used against targets in Al-Zawiya during clashes between formations loyal to the Dbeibah government and others opposed to it, citing an attack that hit the city’s oil refinery and power station.
Warning Against Importing the Conflict
Al-Marash warned that cooperation with Ukraine could bring the repercussions of the RussiaUkraine conflict into Libya, arguing that the Dbeibah government was seeking through this step to persuade Western states not to abandon it, in his words.
