Renewed commitment to the deal and rallying local support
Libya – The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said members of the mini-meeting held a session today in Tunis, chaired by the Secretary-General’s Special Representative Hanna Tetteh, to follow up on implementation of the agreement signed in Tripoli on 30 August.
Commitment to move towards elections
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the mission said the members renewed their commitment to press ahead with implementing the agreement’s provisions, culminating in national elections that meet Libyans’ aspirations for stability and prosperity under unified and legitimate institutions.
Reviewing positions and continuing outreach
It added that the members reviewed the various positions announced on the agreement, especially the supportive stance of the UN Security Council and the House of Representatives, and agreed to keep engaging other local parties to rally the widest possible support for it.
Ninth meeting and October follow-up
UNSMIL said today’s session was the ninth in the mini-meeting series and the first since the two sides signed the agreement on reconstituting the High National Elections Commission and amending the electoral laws. It noted that today’s meeting would be followed by a further follow-up session in the first week of October.
