Al-Bishti links oil governance to national security
LIBYA – Najwa Al-Bishti, head of the contracts department at the National Oil Corporation (NOC), has said that governance and transparency problems in the oil sector do not date only from recent years but go back decades, varying in severity from one period to another, particularly during the turmoil that followed 2011, while challenges of transparency and fighting corruption persist.
Sensitivity of field and reserves data
In a statement to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Al-Bishti said the issue was “bigger than bribes and commissions”, describing it as “first and foremost a national security matter” given the sensitivity of information on fields, production rates, reserves and exploration projects.
Information prosecutors say passed to a foreign company
She referred to information on exploration projects which the Public Prosecution has said left the NOC’s possession and passed to a foreign company, as she spoke about risks that go beyond the financial dimension.
