UN and African talks on a Libyan settlement
LIBYA – Stephanie Khoury, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Political Affairs, has met Constant Serge Bounda, Minister for Foreign Affairs, La Francophonie and Congolese Abroad of the Republic of the Congo, to discuss political, economic and security developments in Libya.
Reconciliation and transitional justice
The media office of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said the meeting focused on national reconciliation and transitional justice, and on the efforts of the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, chaired by the President of the Republic of the Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso.
The February 2025 charter and the roadmap
The two sides discussed the reconciliation efforts that culminated in the signing of the “Libyan National Charter for Peace and National Reconciliation” in February 2025 under African Union auspices, while Khoury briefed the minister on the latest developments in the UNSMIL-facilitated political process, including the mini-meeting agreement and the outcomes of the Structured Dialogue.
UN–African Union coordination
Khoury and Bounda agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation between the United Nations and the African Union to support Libyan efforts to move the political process forward.
