Misrata pharmacists’ union chief criticises bloated hiring and weak pay in health
Libya – Misrata pharmacists’ syndicate head Khalil Al-Agha said the health sector has 350,000 employees while its actual need does not exceed half that number, arguing that the inflated workforce weighs on the sector and drives down wages.
Criticism of how salaries are paid
In remarks to the Sputnik agency, Al-Agha said wages are paid according to civil-service grade without distinguishing between a specialist doctor and an administrative employee, describing that as unfair to the doctor, whose monthly salary he said does not exceed $200.
He described living and economic conditions as extremely difficult, criticised what he called a lack of transparency in financial reports, and insisted that the published figures do not reflect reality, in his assessment.
