Al-Arab Weekly: Joint Training and Equipment Plans Give Sirte Meeting Special Importance

Practical cooperation between military branches in the east and west after years of separate work

Libya – An analytical report examined what the specialised chiefs of staff in the General Command of the Armed Forces and their counterparts in the western region agreed during their meeting in Sirte.

An important step to strengthen cooperation

The report, published by London’s Al-Arab Weekly and followed by Al-Marsad for its main analytical points, said the participants’ agreement to draw up practical plans for joint training, equipment and logistics represents a step that could be highly important towards strengthening cooperation between east and west.

From political coordination to field work

The report added that contacts between the two sides had previously been limited, to a large extent, to political and security coordination, while the new agreement places greater focus on practical cooperation between military branches that have worked separately from one another for several years.
