Dam readiness raised and warning on wadis
Libya – Al-Defar, Director of the Dams Department at the Ministry of Water Resources in the Libyan government, said readiness levels had been raised to deal with any emergency that might arise from water flows and their accumulation behind dams.
Monitoring water levels and emptying dams in emergencies
In special remarks to Al-Masar TV, Al-Defar directed engineers and technicians to maintain a 24-hour field presence, continue measuring water levels and act early on any potential problems.
He said instructions had been issued to empty the dams immediately when needed and in emergencies if large volumes of water built up, stressing that the dams were safe and under precise, continuous monitoring by the department, with no concerns over their integrity.
Warning against wadi courses and dam surroundings
Al-Defar concluded by warning citizens not to pass through wadi courses, dam surroundings, low-lying areas and culverts while water is flowing.
