Al-Dibani: Maritime Agreement With Turkey Strengthens Libya’s Rights, Opens Wider Areas of Cooperation

National interest as the basis for dealing with regional powers

LIBYA – Political analyst Abdullah Al-Dibani has said the adoption of the Libyan-Turkish maritime agreement marks a political and strategic shift, calling for Libyan interests to be put ahead of a policy of estrangement and confrontation with regional powers.

In exclusive comments to Libya Al-Hadath TV, Al-Dibani said the ratification reflects a drive to unify sovereign positions and move beyond earlier political differences, arguing that the agreement strengthens the protection of Libya’s rights in the waters of the Eastern Mediterranean and on the continental shelf.

Legislative cover and opportunities in energy and infrastructure

He explained that parliament’s approval gives the agreement official legislative cover, strengthens Libya’s position in international negotiations and opens wider opportunities for cooperation with Turkey in energy, the economy and infrastructure.

He noted that arbitration and international legal tracks could serve as means of resolving disputes over maritime boundary delimitation, stressing that the agreement’s importance, in his view, goes beyond its legal dimensions to the strategic aspects of managing Libya’s marine resources and wealth.
