Reservations over the proposal could delay the vote
LIBYA – High Council of State (HCS) Finance Committee member Ali Al-Suwaih has said a meeting between his committee and the House of Representatives’ Finance Committee resulted in reservations being recorded on the proposed unified salary scale, which could see it withdrawn from discussion or from a vote at the House session scheduled for Monday until amendments are completed.
In comments to the Fawasel platform, Al-Suwaih said further meetings were likely to be held to complete the technical and financial discussions on the scale.
Resistance to privileges and protecting purchasing power
Al-Suwaih said that, in his view, some bodies are clinging to their financial privileges and resisting amendments aimed at unifying salaries.
He stressed that raising wages without protecting the dinar’s purchasing power would not bring a real improvement in citizens’ living standards, adding that reforming the salary system requires political will, tackling financial imbalances, protecting the currency and fighting corruption.
